Kids Making a Difference
Congratulations and many, many thanks to the children below who have shown by their acts of kindness that kids working together do have a positive influence on the world in which they live!
Want to start showing everyone how kids can make a difference? The animals at Pet Helpers would be forever grateful for any amount of donations you might be able to collect, or for any free time you have to visit the shelter! Please send your email ideas and photos to Tracey: terwin@pethelpers.org with the photos of YOU making a difference!! Kids Rule - let's show these adults how it's done!!
Here are a few ideas on how to get donations in a fun way from some of the kids who have made a difference in the lives of our animals:
- Lemonade Stands
- Bake Sales
- Neighborhood Dog/Car Wash
- Craft Sales
- Neighborhood Yard Sale
- Ask for gift cards/donations to Pet Helpers for your birthday/graduation gifts
- Anything creative you might come up with...Please let us know, so we can spread the word!!
Below are a few examples of our latest shining stars and what they did to contribute - they are all big fans of Pet Helpers and wanted to make a difference!!
The Dogs and Cats Salute...

Mackenzi - A big 4 paw salute to Mackenzi, who had a birthday party and collected tons and tons of wonderful stuff for the cats and dogs here at Pet Helpers!! We are thrilled to know that our youngest donors are taking the time to ask their friends and family for donations to the shelter instead of more toys that sit on shelves. Our puppies and kittens all adore new treats!!! Thanks, Mackenzi...you're the BEST!!

The Mt. Pleasant Cupcakes - These wonderful young ladies are first and second graders in a girls' club called the Cupcakes. They had a Daddy/Daughter dance and raised $190 for Pet Helpers and all the homeless pets here at the shelter!! The girls said the dance was fabulous and was extra special because they raised money for both Pet Helpers and the Lowcountry Food Bank. These girls are truly making a difference in this world!! Thank you to the girls and their parents for the kind donation and the time involved!!!

Jack - Wow!! Jack received the "Principal of the Day Event" Award at Mason Prep by collecting all of these fabulous goodies for our pets here at the shelter! He was able to rustle up a fabulous total of $157.55 for our homeless cats and dogs here at Pet Helpers - and then brought it in with his friends to surprise us. What a great day here at the shelter!! The animals not only received some new snacks...but they also got some great love and attention from some really awesome kids! Thanks so much, Jack and Mason Prep!!!

Harbor View Elementary - Holy Smokes!! Check out the AMAZING collection of food, toys, and a whopping $372.65 that was collected by all of the socially conscious kids at the school!! Thanks to the pet loving Ms. Sessoms and Mrs. Beatty, who teach 2nd grade at the school, the kids were motivated to make a difference in our community by giving back to Pet Helpers. Dr. Ellenberger, the school's principal, kept the kids spurred on to donate, donate, donate...and then they were rewarded by a visit from Felix, the Pet Helper's mascot. Thanks, kids - we are so very, very proud of all of you!!!

Ellen - Ellen is one of our fabulous volunteers, and she celebrated her 9th birthday by having donations given to Pet Helpers in place of birthday gifts!! The animals loved her before...but they REALLY love her now!! You can tell by her photo that she collected all kinds of food, treats and toys - all items we always need here at the shelter! Thanks so much Ellen - Happy Birthday to you, and a big high 5 from the furry paws here at Pet Helpers! xoxox

Chloe - Wow!! Look at all the great items that Chloe collected from her friends for her birthday party! Such a kind and generous thing to do for your birthday...and boy-o-boy do the animals here love all the new snacks!! Chloe donated all her loot and then had fun visiting all the dogs and cats here at the shelter. They gave her a few extra kisses for the nice donations- nothing like a kitty lick to know that you're appreciated!! Thanks, Chloe...you rock!!!

Katie - This sweet lady came into the shelter after having a birthday party benefitting Pet Helpers!! What a wonderful act of kindness and generosity to give presents to the cats and dogs here at the shelter in honor of your own birthday! Our pets here LOVE to get new treats and toys...and our foodbank truly could use as many donations as we can get! Thanks so much Katie - Happy Birthday to you, and all the paws here are waving to you from the shelter!

Abby - Abby and her brother spent a Sunday afternoon selling popsicles in front of their West Ashley home while neighbors tried to beat the heat with their delicious treats!!. They put out a Pet Helpers donation jar and were able to give us $11.50 for their fabulous efforts! Did you know that $11.50 is enough to buy all the kittens enough kitty litter for an entire week!!? Every penny makes a difference here with our animals. Thanks, Abby!!

Kennedy & Ella Grace - Look at these fabulous sisters!! They went out into our steamy, hot, summer sun and had their very own lemonade stand...collecting $15 for our pets here in the shelter!! Did you all know that's enough money to provide a neuter surgery for one of our kitties? It's also enough to provide pain medicine for two animals coming out of surgery here at the Greer Spay/Neuter Clinic!! Thanks, girls - so, so much!!!

Connor - This handsome young man collected $103.50 from change along with his grandmother and brought it in to all the great animals here at Pet Helpers!! They adopted a precious dog named Hairy Potter a while ago and gave him the most wonderful, loving home a pup could ask for from a family. Thanks, Connor...and keep visiting!!

Morgan and Abigail - Look at these creative sisters!! They spent their free summer vacation days making treats for our pets here at the shelter. They made a precious blanket for the kittens, a wrapped box for the kitties to play with in the cat room, some washcloths to clean off the dogs paws and sparkly magnets that we're now using in our office!!. Thanks, girls - so, so much!!!

Sam, Ellie and Julia - Check out these amazing kids who staged their very own readathon to benefit all our furry friends here at the shelter!! They came up with this idea this summer and called on neighbors, friends, and relatives for pledges for an 8 hour readathon to raised money for Pet Helpers. They also had a bake sale and raised almost $100.00 from it. Total raised was $434.60. We are very proud of these children as they thought of this, planned, and implemented it on their own.

Kara - Kara came into Pet Helpers with an incredibly kind donation of $100 of her own money to benefit our Have-A-Heart Fund which helps all of our dogs who come in with heartworms. Kara knows that money will help to save the life of one of our puppies or dogs with heartworms, and helps to make them more adoptable to a family who might be looking for a forever friend. So Kara saved up her money and brought it here to us at Pet Helpers. Kara...you're wonderful!!!

Christian - From Christian's mom..."Christian is FABULOUS! We try to always do one good deed a day and it was his idea (through maybe a little prompting from me) to purchase some food and treats for the animals who don't have homes! Of course, we wanted to take them all home with us! God bless you all for what you do on a daily basis!! Christian is 6 years old and a rising 1st grader at Charleston Collegiate School. I am trying to teach him the importance of always thinking of others and doing kind things. It was very eye opening for him to see too many sweet, innocent animals that are in desperate needs of homes. He has been asking friends since visiting PH if they know of anyone who would like to adopt a dog or cat! Thank you!" We couldn't have said it better - thanks, Christian and Wendy, from all the pets you've helped here at Pet Helpers!!

Brooke, Alexis and Danielle - So guess what these girls did!?!? They held a lemonade stand in their West Ashley neighborhood and raised over $35 for the animals!! Did you know that $35 is enough to feed all of the dogs here at Pet Helpers for over a month??!! We have some big, hearty eaters here...but thanks to these three girls, they will have full tummies for weeks to come. Thanks, girls - so, so much!!!

Priya - Priya came into Pet Helpers with her mom to donate a HUGE bag of towels (40 or 50!!) along with some really big blankets for the dogs and cats. She is only 3 years old but knows how important it is to recycle the things we have in our house, since someone (or some cat/some dog) might love it instead!! Thanks for thinking about us, Priya...you're wonderful!!!

Maggie and Johnny - Look at this AMAZING amount of food donated to us through a fabulous birthday party (we can tell it must have been the talk of the town by the hat in the photo!!) and brought to us nice and organized! We are so appreciative of all the incredible gifts the dogs and cats received from this bounty!!!

Calista and Zoe - Calista and Zoe are our heroes...they donated some of their own allowance to Pet Helpers, so we could buy the kittens and puppies a few extra treats this week! They both like to drop into the shelter when they have some free time to snuggle with the cats and say hello to our dogs. These sisters are showing that kids really can make a difference!!

Birthday Parties Abound!! - We're so excited with all the kids who are coming in to the shelter who have had birthday parties benefitting Pet Helpers!! What a wonderful act of kindness and generosity to give presents to the cats and dogs here at the shelter in honor of your own birthday! The kitties and puppies really love all the new toys and treats...it's like they get to have their very own party to celebrate YOU!!

Ansley Jackson - Ansley was kind enough to ask for donations to Pet Helpers instead of birthday presents when it was time for her party. She and her mom brought in a big box full of fabulous food, treats, bowls and toys for the animals and then spent some time touring the shelter. She's a big lover of kitties and "wishes her dad was allergic to dogs instead of cats!" Two of the silver bowls she collected went right into the kennels with a new little of black lab pups. Thanks, Ansley!!

Fort Johnson Middle School - FOJO sponsored a contest between the students for an entire month and collected an amazing 1,600 items from the students and teachers!! The winning homeroom - Mr. Peterson's 7th grade - was treated to a pizza party at the River Dogs game and fun for all. We're hoping they keep Pet Helpers as their beneficiaries for next year, too! :) Thanks, FOJO!!

Arden and Olivia - Arden and Olivia spent a Saturday crafting friendship bracelets, and then they sold them at a stand in front of their Mt. Pleasant home with mom doing yardwork nearby. They put out a Pet Helpers donation jar and were able to send us $12.50 for their fabulous efforts! Did you know that $12.50 is enough to buy all the kittens their food for an entire week!!? Every penny makes a difference here with our animals. Thanks, Arden and Olivia!!

Alexis and Cassidy - Alexis and Cassidy have the ultimate "summer helper" jobs, since both of their moms are working at the Pet Helpers Greer Spay/Neuter Clinic!! When they are in the clinic, they spend their time folding laundry, organizing supplies, relaying information from the front desk back to the staff behind the scenes and organizing paperwork. They are our fabulous hard workers making a difference here at Pet Helpers!!

Elizabeth - Elizabeth took some time out of her busy day to come to Pet Helpers with her mom to brush and love on the kitties, as well as to bring them a cat food treat to munch on when they're hungry. We love when kids come by the shelter and show kindness to the animals...those are usually the first pets who get adopted, because they've been loved on and shown tenderness by humans. Thank you for your kind gift, Elizabeth!!
