Have a Heart Fund

We receive many dogs that are heartworm positive and must treat them in order to save their lives and to make them adoptable candidates.  The cost of this is close to $200.  Our adoption cost is only $100 and so you can see that we are not even close to recuperating our costs with everything else we do for our animals (spay/neuter, routine vaccines and testing, microchip and daily care).  We have set up a dedicated fund that will ensure that we can help all the dogs that come to our shelter infested with heartworms.  Won’t you find it in your heart to care for the hearts of our canines in need?

Heartworms are about six inches long and live in the heart. They are spread by mosquitos. There are no symptoms until its too late.   Then, the symptoms are those of congestive heart failure:  dull coat, lack of energy, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Although heartworms can be fatal, the condition is almost always curable.

Of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. There are several different drugs used for heartworm prevention, all of them highly effective and easy to use. Ask about it at the Lowcountry Wellness Clinic.
