Development Intern
Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Development:
- Attend fundraising and promotional events as requested
- Prepare Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and enter data into PetPoint shelter software
- Enter data into Giftworks fundraising software
- Assist with website updates using Dreamweaver software
- Work with shelter staff to gather information about shelter animals for marketing purposes
- Help prepare “Thank You” letters to donors
- Call donors to clarify contact information or to inform them about upcoming special events as requested by the Development Director

Although internships are unpaid there are many benefits:
- Gain exposure to working in a non-profit organization

- Learn to use fundraising software, a great skill when applying for non-profit jobs
- Earn letters of recommendation for employment or continuing education
- Earn school credit (when applicable and approved by school)
- Support Lowcountry animals in need
- Learn about fundraising for non-profit organizations
Qualifications:
- An interest in Animal Welfare is preferred
- A love for dogs and cats and the ability to handle dogs or cats for short periods of time when needed
- A desire to work in a non-profit field is preferred
- Basic knowledge as MS Word and Excel
- Experience with Dreamweaver is a plus but not necessary
- Basic administrative skills are required (typing, filing, faxing, etc.)
Time and Place:
Pet Helpers Adoption Center and various locations in the Charleston area when attending events
Commitment:
At least 2 days per week, hours to be determined in interview

Public Relations and Outreach Intern
Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Public Relations and Outreach with:
- Planning events and preparing materials for events
- Attending fundraising and promotional events as requested
- Prepare Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and enter data into PetPoint shelter software
- Assisting with compiling news clippings and information for the media book
- Assist with website updates using DreamWeaver software; make updates to other online applications, such as social media websites
- Work with shelter staff to gather information about shelter animals for marketing purposes

- Visit local radio and TV stations with Director of Public Relations and Development for weekly promotional spots
- Earn letters of recommendation for employment or continuing education

Qualifications:
- An interest in Animal Welfare is preferred
- A love for dogs and cats and the ability to handle dogs or cats for short periods of time when needed
- A desire to work in a non-profit field is preferred
- Basic knowledge as MS Word, Excel and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace)
- Experience with Dreamweaver is a plus but not necessary
- Basic administrative skills are required (typing, filing, faxing, etc.)

Volunteer Coordination Intern
Responsibilities
Assist the Volunteer Coordinator:
- Attend fundraising and promotional events as requested
- Prepare Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and enter data into PetPoint shelter software
- Enter data into Giftworks fundraising software
- Assist with the Foster Care Program by calling foster parents to schedule appointments and check in on the animals
- Assist with organizing and compiling volunteer files
- Add and record volunteer hours
- Assist with the Saturday junior volunteer club meetings as requested

Qualifications:
- An interest in Animal Welfare is preferred
- A love for dogs and cats and the ability to handle dogs or cats for short periods of time when needed
- A desire to work in volunteer management or a non-profit field
- Basic knowledge as MS Word and Excel
- Experience with Dreamweaver is a plus but not necessary
- Basic administrative skills are required (typing, filing, faxing, etc.)
- Must enjoy meeting and talking with new people on a daily basis
Time and Place:
Pet Helpers Adoption Center and various locations in the Charleston area when attending events
Commitment:
At least 2 days per week, some Saturdays; hours to be determined in interview
