"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in." -Sally Burnett

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Pet Helpers!

Volunteers are the heart and soul of our shelter. Because we are a non-profit organization, we rely on volunteers to keep Pet Helpers running with a limited staff. Without your support, we would not be able to continue our efforts.

Enclosed, please find a list of volunteer opportunities and a volunteer application. The first step is to sign up for an orientation by calling 795-1110. Please be advised that children must be 12 or older to volunteer. Those under 17 must be accompanied by a trained parent or guardian at all times. Children under 12 may attend our Pet Support Team, which meets the first Saturday of every month at 2pm.

Volunteering at Pet Helpers is a rewarding experience. We ask that you commit as closely as possible to a regular schedule here at the shelter, whether it is once a month for two hours or all day four days a week. If you cannot commit to any kind of schedule, please consider attending an Open Volunteer Day, the dates of which will be announced on our website. Thank you again for your generous support.

Sincerely,

Think you'd make a good Pet Helpers volunteer? Take the quiz!

1. Do you love animals so much that you often do things others might call crazy (engage in a long coverstation with your cat or throw a birthday party for your dog)?

2. Do you also enjoy meeting new people and engaging with the public?

3. Are you the kind of person who loves to jump into new situations and take initiative?

4. Are you happy to get a little dirty when it's necessary?

5. Are you looking for a way to speak up for animals who can't speak for themselves?

If you answered an enthuiastic YES! to all five questions, we'd love to have you be a part of the Pet Helpers team! The first step to becoming a volunteer is to attend a Volunteer Orientation. Check out our 'Upcoming Orientations' page for more info.

Just a typical day in the life of a Pet Helpers volunteer:

To operate smoothly, Pet Helpers relies on the commitment and energy of its uniquely talented volunteers.  Volunteers assist the Pet Helpers staff with many of its responsibilities.  These responsibilities include adoption counseling, kennel cleaning, cat socialization, event management, and much more.  We love our volunteers!

Volunteering at Pet Helpers can be very fun and rewarding.  You will contribute to the success of Pet Helpers as you facilitate adoptions, fundraising, and general public awareness of Pet Helpers.  You can commit as little as one hour per week, or as much as several days per week!  Our hope for you the volunteer is that you will integrate yourself into the Pet Helpers staff as everyone works together to provide for the animals.

Pet Helpers invites anyone who is 17 and older to volunteer.  Kids ages 12-17 must be supervised by a parent.  We ask that the parent attend an orientation with their child.  Children ages 6-11 are encouraged to sign up for our Pet Support Team!  Please take a look at the different volunteer responsibilities listed below, download the application, and sign up for an orientation!  We look forward to having you as part of our team!

If you are interested in volunteering at Pet Helpers, please sign up for an orientation first.  Orientation dates can be found here.

Open Volunteer Day: Sunday, March 4

You're a busy person! A desire to volunteer and make your community better may not fit into your schedule. That's why Pet Helpers has Open Volunteer Days for those of you who want to give a few hours of your time but are unable to committ on a regular basis. You don't have to attend a volunteer orientation or meet with the volunteer coordinator to set up a regular schedule. Just sign up and show up to assist with a one-day project that will help make Pet Helpers a better place for our animals. Remember - you don't have to donate more than a few hours of your time to make a BIG difference!

Call 795-1110 or email emarcus@pethelpers.org to sign up.
