PJ and Roxie

pj

Hey Pet Helpers!

Wanted to update you on PJ & LC (Now Roxie). They are both doing amazing and sleeping next to me on the couch as I speak. We adopted PJ after my boyfriend and I decided to randomly stop into Pet Helpers on our way home from the beach one day. We had just moved to the area, and missed our family pets so wanted to start a furry family of our own. My boyfriend Derek was almost instantly drawn to PJ when he reached out and pawed at Derek when he walked by. While He was outside playing with him, I was drawn to the quartine windows where two border collie puppies had been found on the side of the road earlier that day. PJ fit into our home perfectly, but it wasent long untill we decided he needed a playmate. About a week before my birthday Derek came back to pet helpers to see if those two border collie pups were there, and low and behold they had just came back from a foster home that morning! A few days later I was curled up with Roxie on the way home.
They abosoluty love each other, and love to rumble around the house and chase each other. PJ will be a year old in September, and Roxie is about 7 months. We know PJ is full grown, but we are always wondering if Roxie is going to top 30lbs and what extcally she is mixed with. They are both our kids, and they are our life, we can not immagine going day to day without them. PJ has saved us twice from a break in, and Roxie always seems to know when something is wrong, and she is the first to lick your tears away. We are moving soon to a bigger home with a backyard where they can rumble all they want and get as dirty as they please. We try to make it to every pet helpers fundrasier and love meeting people to have also adopted from you guys. I truley think they are the ones who resuced us!
(in Pictures,PJ is the lab mix & roxie is the little one)
Also, we would love to know what happened to Roxies' mostly black brother,JD,and maybe get them together and play if anyone out there adopted him?

Love, Courtney & Derek

Bobby McGee

b

Dear Pet Helpers,
I wanted to share my pet helpers alumni story after seeing so many other happy stories.  I adopted Bobby McGee from Pet Helpers in August 2007 after getting my first apartment alone.  Bobby McGee made the best roommate a girl could have.  She was an elderly, long term resident of Pet Helpers.  She was also one of the biggest cats I have ever seen.  She kept great company and was quite the conversationalist.  Sadly, Bobby McGee passed a couple of years after moving in.  I am just glad that I could make her last couple of years comfortable and happy.  She sure did make me happy!  Thank you Pet Helpers for sharing Bobby McGee with me.
Best,
Samantha Finley

Willie

willie

I've waited till today to update you on Willie because today was the first appointment we could get with Dr. Hutto.

Physically, Willie is fine In other ways he's just plain wonderful. No accidents in the house at all, he gets along with Odie very well and he's becoming more comfortable around strangers. One bit of food aggression when he tried to eat out of Odie's bowl and my husband tried to stop him. A small snap and then very sheepish behavior. We're pretty sure that with time we can eliminate the guarding behaviors. No problems with toys, but then Odie isn't a toy loving dog.

Willie's recall is coming along well. We feel that another week or 2 and we'll be able to take him to the off leash park. Plans are to start out early in the morning during the week when there's no or a lot fewer other dogs to get him used to it. He plays well with Odie in the yard, he should absolutely love it with that much more room to run.

Haven't been able to get pictures of Willie and Odie together but am sending you 3 pictures of Willie alone. Thanks for letting us be his forever home.

Maxx

Hi Pet Helpers,

We adopted Maxx July 10th, 2010 and what joy he has brought to our family!  We set out for Pet Helpers late Saturday afternoon with the intention of adopting a dog for my birthday.  Secretly, I hoped they would have a Yorkie for adoption, but never imagined my birthday wish would actually come true. I am thankful that Maxx was there waiting for our family. He is full of life and has an adorable personality. He loves to play with his numerous toys and is so lovable. He is certainly spoiled by my three teenagers! We celebrated his 4th birthday today, he was such a happy boy!

Thank you, Pet Helpers, for all you do for all the animals in the community and the families that adopt them!

"Pluto" now "Jacques Clement"

jacques

Hello,

This is just a message to let you know that Pluto is doing just fine. I've renamed him Jacques Clément because Pluto just didn't seem to fit him. He's pleased with the change and is responding to his new name. He gets along wonderfully with my not-quite-two-year-old Lulu LaRue, who was not thrilled at first at his arrival. They're now playing together, and I anticipate that they will be best friends soon. From the first night, Jacques sleeps in my bed. He's very vocal and follows me around like a puppy. He's a fabulous cat!

He also likes to "make biscuits," grabbing a piece of shirt with his teeth while he kneads. He sends his love to his previous owner and hopes that her health is good. He'd like her to know that he's being pampered.

Best,
Ed

"Salt" now "Amos"

salt

Hi Pethelpers,

The moment I brought Amos (formerly Salt) home he was instantly the King of the Castle! He immediately jumped on the couch and started taking a nap, one of his favorite past times. Amos is such a blessing and the PERFECT cat for me! He is so sweet and wants to always be loved on. He loves climbing in empty boxes, drawers and cabinets. He has even learned to open the cabinet doors himself! Now he is just waiting on Mom to make more money so he can have a little sister!

Thanks for everything you do!

Alyssa

Maggie

Maggie is doing AWESOME! As you can see, she has made herself at home. Now she has an older Chihuahua brother that she loves to play with, even though sometimes Pedro would rather her just mind her business. Our two cats are trying to convince her that "cats rule & dogs drool." As far as her humans, she has a 10-year-old mother (our daughter), a 3-month-old new uncle (our son), and a grandma & grandpa. Never thought we would be grandparents before we were 40, but our daughter insists that she is the mother. You can tell she has been a mother,.... anytime the baby cries, she instantly checks on the baby. She is a true joy and we couldn't imagine our family without her. We will keep you posted on her in the future.

Thank you so much for completing our family. We love Pet Helpers.

"Moth" now "Jasper"

Dear Pet Helpers family,

We wanted to write to let you know how Jasper (formerly known as “Moth”) is doing.

We already had one dog, and had been waiting for the right time to get another addition when my husband Jason went to Pet Helpers. We had only two criteria for the dog we were looking for. We wanted a dog that had been there for a while and one that would be a bit of a challenge. We decided this because we wanted to give a loving home to a dog that may not be the first choice for some people. “Moth” we learned had been returned twice due to some over-protectiveness and some separation anxiety. Staff members told us that he could be a challenge and that if it didn’t work out to please bring him right back to Pet Helpers. It was apparent he had found a place in all of your hearts.

From the minute I greeted him at the door, he has been our sweet angel. He is more loving than any animal I have ever seen. His tail is in constant “wag” and he loves to be talked to, hugged, belly-rubbed, and kissed on the head. He cannot get enough of being with his family, even his big sister Willa Mae, our other dog who is sometimes moody.

He loves to be outdoors running in the yard, at the beach, or at the dog park. He doesn’t even mind getting a bath! He loves traveling and meeting new people and other animals. He is loving and accepting of everyone if he is given a minute to get to know them. If all people had such personalities what a wonderful world we would live in! We cannot imagine how anyone could open their home to him and not keep him, but we are grateful every single day that someone did because now he is in our family where he belongs. We will love him and willcherish him forever!

Thank you for blessing our lives and the lives of so many other families!

Scout

Hey my heroes at Pet Helpers!

As I write this, Scout is lying pressed against me with his head across my tummy. He is such a precious gift!!! We LOVE him so much. He often sleeps with Abbey, the kitty, in his arms or wrapped up tightly next to his belly. She gives him baths, and they play together. He sits patiently, letting our 8month old baby pat him on the head.

Scout enjoys running along the battery, playing frisbee on/in the beach, and the treat of playing in the hose or in the fountain by the pier!!! HE LOVES WATER! He got to swim in his aunt's pool on summer vacation in May, He didn't know what to think at 1st, but he finally came in and loved it. He would swim laps right beside me, swimming to tag one side of the pool and back to the other.

He is so precious and gentle and kind, he never barks inappropriately anymore! You have never met a sweeter, more handsome boy!!!

Thanks Pet Helpers, you'll always be special to us for the joy you brought into our lives both before Scout, and (especially) after Scout!!!

Amara

I asked Daddy to let you know just how happy I am to be with him at his house.  I sure do love Daddy, and he treats me really good!  Daddy loves me and I treat him really good, too!  Daddy plays a lot with me each night, and he is always giving me lots of love.  I have about eight toys, and Daddy says he'll get a few more for me.  I didn't know that playing with toys could be so much fun!

Daddy has taught me a trick with my num-nums (treats).  He hand-feeds them to me.  He gives me three of them.  I sit for the first one, then for the second one I sit up and balance myself and get it from his hand without touching him, then I get the third one sitting down again.  I learned that trick really fast.

Daddy says I am a fast learner and a good listener.  I understand the words “No” and “Look out!”.  He tells me that I am very smart.  Daddy is pretty smart, too.

Daddy has me do one big job - I have to watch the house while he's gone, like when he goes to work, church or the store.  He says I do a good job.  I usually meet him at the door and let him know just how much I missed him.  He tells me he missed me too when he comes home.

Thank you for letting me have a forever home with Daddy.  Please share my love with everyone there.

With lots of love, purrs and happy meows,

Amara

(Daddy is Arthur W. Jenkins)

"Colonel" now "Archie"

Archie is a really great dog and companion! Thank you for all that you do and for matching
us up with him.

"Jane" now "Jovie"

I just wanted to give a little update on our wonderful dog Jovie (was Jane). We got her last December. We came in with a list of attributes we wanted for our family pet, and the girl who helped us was awesome! She introduced us to Jane, and we thought she seemed like she would be a great fit for our family. She has exceeded our expectations! We just love her so much! We have three kids (5, 3 and almost 2) and she definitely thinks she is the 4th. The kids play with her all the time and she loves it. I can't thank you all enough for introducing us to her - she definitely brings us all much joy, love and laughter!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Rasputina" now "Bella Blu"

Bella Blu is doing amazingly well. Knows her new name, comes when called. She is still skittish about sitting beside you, but definitely wants to be in the room you are in all the time.

She is going to be a great road warrior. Whew... I didn't think I would ever find another road warrior like my Kitty Sam that passed away. Got home to NC and she immediately acclimated herself to the house - started investigating everything and within a few hours it was just like she had been here forever. She doesn't seem to mind at all that she has to share the bed with my husband now. She just wakes him up all night like she does me. I am so pleased she chose me to be her Mommy!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Mr. Fluffhead" now "Floyd"

I adopted Mr Fluffhead over a year ago. He's almost 13 and doing great. I call him Floyd. He's very well adjusted now with his family Bella and Homer (cats) and Oliver (dog). Thank you for everything you do. We love him.

Alicia Sterner

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Bullseye" now "Max"

I am SO glad I brought this little guy home with me. You called him Bullseye (since he's all white with those little grey spots on top of his head), but he's been rechristened Maximilian the Magnificent (he graciously allows me to call him Max for short).

He took really well to my house and my old cat, Malia (14 years old), though she took a little longer to get used to him since she'd never been around other cats. They get along great now and even run and play a little. (Poor Malia gets tired easily, of course, so she naps a lot more since he wears her out!) They don't cuddle a lot, but they sleep about 5 inches apart and "accidentally" cuddle on rare occasions (I can never get the camera in time) and are really good together.

Max is about 8 months old now and he's:

** super playful (loves his squeaky mice, crinkly tunnel, anything with a jingle bell or noise-maker in it, and any small scrap of paper that falls on the floor before I can get it!) I think he has a hundred toys (only a slight exaggeration - the boy is spoiled!) Don't even get me started on him chasing the little red dot from the laser pointer - it's seriously the funniest thing I've ever seen!!

** been really great at learning not to claw the furniture. He goes right to his scratching posts every morning when we wake up for a good scratch before breakfast and if he ever gets the idea to touch the sofa with his claws, all it takes is a quiet "no, no" and he goes back to the post! He lets me trim his nails with no protest at all (a minor miracle & nice change of pace, considering my old cat's attitude about manicures).

** not a total lap kitty, but he has to be within 2 feet of me at any given moment, so it makes for an interesting time when I'm trying to clean the house, as he's always underfoot, and I'm apparently not allowed to close the bathroom door! He even sits on the edge of the tub while I shower to watch the water.

** still a sweetie and lets me rub his little pink belly when he's sleepy & play with his pink paws too.

** gotten almost as big as his older "sister" and is so sleek & shiny...and MUSCULAR. He's like a little white panther!

** REALLY smart (probably too much!) and has learned to come right to me when I call his name. He's curious like all kittens, but he actually does listen...at least 90% of the time...as long as he's in the mood! He's actually pretty amazing! I'm in love with him and he's already an excellent cat and is going to get even better as he grows up!

I'm so glad I was able to take him home with me and I'll be taking excellent care of him so he stays with me at least as long as my old girl has!

"Patty Watty" now "Abby"

Patty Watty, who is now called Abby, is living happily in West Ashley. We are so thankful to the wonderful people at Pet Helpers, especially Janet, who helped us find our first dog. My husband and I were totally new to dog ownership and Janet took the time to really help us choose the right dog for us and answer our many questions. We could not be happier with Abby. She is a wonderful dog who brings us so much joy. She was a little shy when she first came home with us, but every day we are seeing more of her personality. She is a very loyal, funny, and obedient dog who follows us everywhere! Thank you again to everyone at Pet Helpers; you all do such a wonderful job!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nicole

We adopted Nicole around October of 2009. When we brought her home, she was terrified of our cats and would not come downstairs. She did not eat that much and she was not very social. She does love children, which is one reason why Pet Helpers took her to the elementary schools. Now, she plays with the cats all the time, and she is friendly to everyone. She loves that we have several families that have children in our neighborhood. Our son was born in December and Nicole loves him like he was her own pup. She loves to watch him, lick him and check on him all the time. She even sits right under his swing. She is the best dog ever and we love her dearly!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Gizmo" now "Sampson"

Sampson was called Gizmo when we got him in 2007 from Pet Helpers. We had just gotten engaged, and he is our child now. He was found stranded on Folly Beach. We took him in and love him more than anything! It's obvious that someone put some time and effort into him. He is my shadow, so loyal and obedient. He likes to sunbathe and chase squirrels. Anytime a fire truck drives by, he howls like a wolf. It's so cute! He lets us know if anyone is around the house. And he sleeps between us every night.

Melissa Valek

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ares and Felton" now "Aries and Nubby"

About mid-January I started debating when was the right time to think about another pet. The void in my life was indescribable. I was used to having my cats greet me whenever I came home and cuddling with them on the couch and their purring; their personalities and their unconditional love. They brought me more joy than I could ever describe

I decided to visit Pet Helpers on my lunch hour one day and walked around to pet a few kitties while I was there. The second day I visited the adult rooms and then the kitten rooms. That's when I first met Felton (we like to call him Nubby now). He was just the cutest little thing! What attracted me to him is his playful nature and his beautiful marble tabby markings...and his short tail! I brought my fiance back after work to bring Nubby home and we ran into Aries in one of the adult rooms. He actaully found me! He jumped into my lap and the rest is history! We ended up leaving that evening with Nubby (4 mos) and Aries (9 mos).

The first time they met each other was when we released them from their carriers at home and they've been best buds ever since! They have brought us so much joy and laughter in the short time we've had them. I feel certain that my decision to move forward with another adoption was a great one. What I realized is that I need their love as much as they need mine. And although my fiance and I love and miss our baby girls very much, we feel that our new baby boys are a reflection of them, and we embrace our new family.

I just wanted to share our story with all of you at Pet Helpers since you are a part of this story as well.

Thank you for everything you do, for the pets and for the community.

Sincerely,

Anita K. Proxmire

"Pyro" now "Beau"

These are my beautiful cats, Jack and Beau. I adopted Beau (formerly “Pyro”) in August of 2009. He has brought an indescribable amount of love to my home (and heart!). I initially adopted him so that my cat Jack would have someone to play with while I’m at work/school. At first, Jack was a little skeptical of his new housemate but before long they became inseparable. Beau’s personality is unlike any cat I’ve ever met…he is SO loving and sweet (not to mention spoiled!). He constantly wants to be held and cuddled. He follows me around the house everywhere….he even sits on the shower ledge while I’m bathing! I am so very thankful to Pet Helpers for helping me find such an amazing companion.  He really does complete my life and make me so happy! Thanks, Pet Helpers!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Gia" now "Maybel"

Gia, who now goes by Maybel, is living comfortably and happily with me in West Ashley. Picking her up from Pet Helpers was one of the best decisions I've ever made. She has yet to meet a person or dog she didn't get along with. She is happy and playful, and spends most of the day in the backyard sunbathing with my parents' two Jack Russells. Every day we go on a bike ride together. She likes to run beside me and try and catch squirrels. I try to take her downtown on campus with me whenever I can. She loves car rides and sniffing around in Marion Square. We hit the dog park once or twice a week to keep her socialized. So, thank you to the gentleman that brought her in, and thanks to Pet Helpers for a smooth adoption process. I recommend Pet Helpers first to anyone that asks me about getting a dog.

"Darma" now "Abbie"

In Dec., 1999, a few weeks before Christmas, I was a sickly little gray tabby named Darma. One day, a nice couple came to play with my kitten friends and me. They sat on the floor with us. I was very lonely because my sister had already been adopted. I decided this lady was going to be mine. I crawled up on her shoulders and curled up to take a nap. The poor lady tried to play with the other kittens, but they already knew I had staked claim to this one. I was very sad when they left without me.

A few hours later the lady came back after we were put to bed. The other kittens were sleeping, bathing or playing in their crates, but didn’t even notice her. I went to the door, stuck out my tiny arm and waved the lady to me. “Come here. I’m here”, I said.

Again the lady left after petting me a little. Again, I was very sad. It seemed for ever, but the lady came back a couple of days later and she did adopt me, sickly at 3 pounds and 4 months old as I was.

11 years later, I still think my mom is the “bestest” Christmas present I have ever gotten. My eye and digestive problems all went away. My mom even built me 2 condo towers and a cat ramp.

My name isn’t Darma anymore. It’s Abbie. I got to have my own personal puppy for Christmas that long ago year. Since then that puppy grew up and passed away. I got a new puppy for Thanksgiving last year. I’m still thinking on whether she can stay or not.

Thanks Pet Helpers for finding me a really nice Mom and Dad.

"Suet Lange" now "Kaela"

We adopted Kaela (aka Suet Lange) back in August 2009 and boy has she been a sheer delight to have as a part of our family. Everyone who comes in contact with her falls in love with her. She is perfect in every way. Kaela has great manners and is so very sweet and loving and can be a clown when she so chooses. She came into our lives sort of unexpectedly during a time of deep grief for us in losing 2 fur babies within 2 years. She needed us and we needed her.

Despite having some orthopedic/muscular skeletal issues, she remains upbeat and loving. We are pouring our hearts into her care and never regret adopting her for one sec. I feel as if she has been a part of our family forever. We truly adore Kaela and look forward to making lots of special memories with her.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Janet"

We adopted our black lab mix puppy, Janet, just before Christmas in 2008. It has truly been a match made in heaven ever since she was first brought home. She was one of the happiest dogs we had ever seen when we first met her, and nothing has changed in the last year.

Janet leads a very active life, and loves the outdoors. She goes on daily walks through Charleston, and loves to go to the beach and different parks around the city. Fetching a tennis ball has to be her favorite activity, and she never gets tired of playing. She is very affectionate, and loves to curl up next to us at the foot of the bed or the end of the couch. She also loves to stop by Pet Helpers and thank everyone there for taking such good care of her!

She has been a wonderful addition to our home, and we can't remember what life was like before we got her. Thanks so much for putting us all together!

"Amazin" now "AJ"

Just an update on Amazin', or as we call him, A.J.  He is wonderful!  He is growing both in weight and in all over size.  When we first brought him home he was not thrilled to be held.....now he is a huge baby who wants to be held, cuddled and kissed all the time.  With three other cats who sleep in bed with us he had to find his own space and he has, right by our feet.

It is so much fun watching him make a new discovery, currently he loves to play with water!  He sits in the kitchen sink and plays the stream of water from the faucet like a guitar string.  He gets along well with everyone and is becoming vocal!  For the longest time all we heard from him were purrs, now he learning to talk to us, not much, but when he has something to say.

We love him so much, it's like we were just waiting for him!  So, from A.J. and my husband and I "Thank You!"  Every time a herd of cats runs through the house there is this beautiful, goofy, one-eyed guy in the pack that brings a smile to our faces and a warm glow to our hearts!

"Bella"

Bella was adopted in October 2007 and she has been absolutely the best dog we've ever had. She goes to work with us everyday and hangs out on the couch. Both my wife and I work here at ABC Studios' "Army Wives" and Bella has appeared two times on television, she's quite a little star.

Thank you so much, for this very important part of our lives.

"Beaulah"

Everywhere I go she is right by my side. She doesn't like for me to be out of sight. It's so funny! It's like having a toddler again. She seems to be adjusting very well and we hope to keep up this momentum! Thank you so much for walking us through the adoption process. We just adore her.

"Madame Cuddles"

>>See a short video clip of Madame Cuddles<<

Cuddles has settled into her new home. She met our vet, who pronounced her a great cat! She sleeps in between us every night and even watches tennis with us.

We love this kitty, she is such a good fit for our family. We had to laugh when our co-worker brought in her picture that ran in the Island Life Newspaper. Too late! She's ours forever.

Thank you so much for holding on to her for us.

Greg, Julie and Kit McMurry

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Mama Jillian" now "Persephone"

Persephone has been a great addition to our family. While she still gives wide berth to our beagle PJ, and hungrily eyes the lizard tanks, she has settled in with lots of love and affection. She is exactly the right match for our son—THANK YOU to all the staff at Pet Helpers for your expert advice, and thanks especially to Abby for the time and caring you gave us on Christmas Eve. Despite all the “stuff” of the holiday, our son will tell everyone that the best gift he received was Persephone.

Thanks

"Jazzy" now "Gracie"

Here is Gracie with all her sisters! She is fitting in well. Today is 1 week since I took her home and still not a single accident in the house!! She loves to play ball - brought it right back to me the first time I tossed it. Her favorite toy is definately the frisbee. It's bigger than her, but she doesn't seem to care.  She just lifts her head high and drags it the best she can. Thank you all again for giving me these wonderful gifts! They are a joy every day!

Margaret, Nala (retriever mix), Piper (cattle dog), Bailey (white of unknow heritage) and Gracie

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Roz" now "Maggie"

Roz is doing well. She's got her basic commands down plus a couple tricks like bowing, spinning, and hitting the Staples "Easy Button." It's fun when you bring out the treats since she'll go madly through all her tricks even before you've given the 1st command.

We had a fairly warm October and November here in Connecticut but December has gotten cold. Our Southern Belle has taken a little while getting used to it. Maggie has been using her "deer spring" to get through the heaviest of the snow and is still trying to figure it out. Her "get excited" list has now grown from mainly garbage trucks, as they do their pickup, to include the snow plows as they go by.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Cowboy"

Thanks for the picture of Cowboy!  He is an AWESOME dog!  He was great on the car ride home.  Before we even made it inside, we explored the backyard--he bolted around for about 5 minutes, checked out the perimeter a couple of times and chased the ball endlessly!  He's been great inside so far...he paws me and whines to let me know he needs to go out...knows what "outside" means...and has been very well mannered!  He met our neighbors and one of their dogs tonight and did well with the other dog and my girlfriend, but definitely behaved differently with her husband.  Right now Cowboy's sprawled out on the floor WIPED OUT ...no--here he is pawing and kissing me!  We were meant to be!!    :)  Thanks for all your help and encouraging words! You guys are all great!  We'll be around to see you in the near future and send pics in the meantime. Cowboy had a great first night!  He got to chase the big bad deer away ;)  and he (accidentally) took a swim in the goldfish pond!  He was quite embarassed by that and I'm sure it will never happen again!  I left him for a couple of hours today in the kitchen & living room and he was perfect.  He's very well house trained; he always lets me know when he has to go outside--even at 6 this morning with a big wet kiss to the face!

Here are some shots of Cowboy in action today.  Enjoy! And by the way, he's still awesome!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hoodwinked" - now "Sonny Dog"

Sonny Dog was adopted from Pet Helpers in May 2004.  He was a skinny, timid dog known as "Hoodwinked" at the shelter who was surrendered to PH along with his two sisters.  He has since blossomed into a very happy and loved dog.

After living in Charleston while his owner finished college, he resided in Columbia SC for 3 years.  While in Columbia, Sonny Dog enjoyed daily strolls in Earlewood Park and weekend adventures in Congaree National Swamp.   Sonny Dog recently moved to Lancaster, PA, where he enjoys his walks in Musser Park, and is looking forward to his first experience in the snow!

His favorite foods are cheese and salmon, his favorite trick is "shake,"  and he enjoys chasing squirrels.
Sonny Dog is eager to learn the whereabouts of his sisters and wants to visit them, if possible!

"Ninja - now Jack"

Hello my name is Courtney and I adopted Jack (aka "ninja") from Pet Helpers in January '09. Jack enjoyed his new home on Folly Beach so much! He is the best cat with so much personality. Just wanted to say thanks for all that you do and let you know how much we loved Jack.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Louise - now Cannon"

Hello there! I know how much everyone loved Louise so I thought I'd send a couple of shots of her. We have changed her name to Cannon as some of you may know. All is well with her and her new sister Tonka.

"Jimbo - now Travis"

Here is a picture of (Jimbo) Travis, adopted 10/14/09. Which boy is happier?!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Maxx"

Sorry It's taken me a long time to write you with an update on how Maxx has adjusted to his new family.  I know you all looked for the perfect home for Maxx and he fits right in with our active family, he really seems to love living with us. When we brought him home on July 10th he was shy and quiet but it didn't take him long to get used to his surroundings.  Pretty soon he showed us his funny puppy traits like falling asleep in his dog bowl.  He absolutely loves to go on long walks especially in the rain or at the beach, anywhere he can find water.  Maxx has discovered the Dog Park in Park West, which is a favorite place to hang-out with friends and play in the pond.

Right now I'm dealing with Maxx backtalking when he's asked to settle down and not to jump on us when he's excited.  He also likes to chew furniture too and it happens in a split second.  I've really been working with him a lot and I know it's going to take a while to break him of habits. Anyway, I though you'd like to see a current picture of Sara, Maxx and Kristin at the beach which was taken in September.  I will try to bring Maxx by for a visit very soon.

"Bishop - now Panama"

Hi I'm Miranda,  my boyfriend Justin and I are the proud new parents of 3 month old, Panama!  He is a Lab/ Pitbull mix with the intelligence of a 10 year old dog and all the love in the world.  Panama, formally known as Bishop has us brought so much love and laughter!   He loves our other animals too! We have two cats and another dog that thought he was a cat until he met the real deal ,Panama.  So all around everyone is better off with Panama in the picture!  We don't know what we ever did without him- he is the the best thing that happened to us besides each other.  Thank you so much Pet Helpers - Miranda Ward

Zorra and Halle Berry

Domino is now Zorra (outside kitty) and Begera is now Halle Berry (inside kitty).  They are true “sisters” now and enjoy cleaning, sleeping, playing, attacking and snuggling together.  Thank you for the honor of allowing me to give them forever homes.  We are very happy.

Orbie

Hello, My name is Michelle Keene, I was writing you today to just keep you updated on the dog that we have recently adopted.  I have a small family... my husband Matthew and my two year old daughter Kennedy. I must say that Orbie (previously named Maya) the female Labrador/Chow mix has been a wonderful addition to our family. We have always been dog lovers but were nervous about our first dog in the home with our daughter. Orbie has been great to get along with, very playful when needed with lots of energy to spend on our daughter and then very careful as well. I must say she has been the ideal dog for our lifestyle. We wanted to tell Pet Helpers thank you for all the help in showing us Orbie and walking us through the adoption process. We will keep you updated on her growth and wanted to let you know she has found a loving and warm home.

Thank you for all of you time and we hope you have a safe and happy Holiday,
Michelle, Matthew, Kennedy and Orbie

Tiger and Bam Bam

Hello! I adopted two cats from you about 6 months ago and just wanted to send you an update on how they're doing. "Tigger", who now goes by "Tiger", was the enormous blind orange tabby who I fell in love with the second I saw him. Everyone was a bit nervous to see how he would get along with the kitten I had already committed to adopting, "Francois". (He now goes by "Bam Bam", which seems more suitable to his personality.) They are both happy as can be and spend every day playing with each other. They get along just great with the third cat in the house as well. I couldn't be more in love with either of them, and I just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do.

Danielle

Leo now Samson

This is Samson (formerly known as "Leo"). He was the last of the black lab mix puppy litter that was at Pet Helpers in late fall 2008. Samson has been a joy. He loves fetching, swimming, and playing with other pups--including some of his litter mates that we've bumped into at dog parks around town. He's a smart, loyal, and affectionate boy. Thank you to Pet Helpers for taking such good care of Samson in the 6 weeks he was there before I adopted him! It was a great start to his healthy and happy life with his proud owner.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Boolah" now "Sandy"

We've chosen the name Sandy since she was found under a Folly dock...and because of her pretty coloring. She is doing well, and we love her! We've only had her a month, but she has adjusted well. She has only chewed up one flip-flop, and she hid under the table before we found it...she knew that was not good! She loves playing ball and rope. Although she is 40 lbs, she thinks she is a lap-dog!! We don't let her sleep in the bed, so she sleeps right outside the door and doesn't move all night. She isn't so sure about other dogs (even though she grew up around so many of them). She's so sweet, but she likes to growl at all the dogs and men she meets (even though she's been great with the family, and "Daddy" is her favorite). Of course, half the time she growls, her tail is just a-wagging. Hopefully we can deal with the growling in obedience school this fall. She hardly ever barks, and she's always smiling. She sleeps with her little ears perked up...it's so cute. She is our baby girl.   :-)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Roz" now "Maggie"

Maggie is shown here with her cousin, a yellow lab named "Sammy" as they enjoy a day at the beach. She's also demonstrating that she's the perfect boating companion with her black fur shining in the sun and striking the supermodel pose with those sweet eyes!! Little did she know when she was bunking in with us here at Pet Helpers, that soon she'd be adopted by the perfect family for her - the Reddingtons - and would be living a charmed life in West Hartford, CT! Congratulations, Maggie...you deserve the very best!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Harry and Gracie

Harry and Gracie were adopted two years ago, and as you can see by the photo, they now live in the lap of luxury!! We liked how they looked like an old, married couple in the photo - obviously spending their time doing what cats do best during the day! Congrats to Harry and Gracie who are now living the live of Riley!! :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Necter now Hooper

Dear Kristin and Emily, and everyone at PetHelpers,
Here are the pictures of Hooper that I promised you  - he is doing very well , you'd think he's lived here forever!     Tee and I both adore him, and Fox (our other dog, also a Corgi mix) and Lily (our Ragdoll wanna-be cat) are getting along with Hooper better and better each day. We are going to see a specialist tomorrow, and if he wants, we will do a set of x-rays, and then we will begin physical therapy probably Thursday. Hooper is swimming like a champ and going up and down the steps like gangbusters, so we feel confident that with the right therapy, supplements, diet, and exercise he will manage quite nicely in the long term. We will start Obedience classes once we're done with the outpatient therapy (I will continue to do whatever necessary at home), in the meantime - Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU for saving his life and allowing us to be his family!

MOST Sincerely!

Pamela

"Shroeder"

Hi Everyone,
I've been at my Forever Home for two weeks today and I am very happy. I have four sisters and a boy cousin. You can see three of my sisters in the pictures below. The big guy in the back is my cousin and he comes to play one day a week. We go for walks twice a day and then we get big bowls of food. I'm been to my new doctor and he said my leg was healing very well and just to continue the heartworm treatment that I am on. I'm not as skittish as I was, but I still keep an eye on my Daddy. I have my own bed and everything. I stay there, curled up, all night long. Please tell Gwynn that I miss her, and I really appreciate everything that she did for me. I am doing very well. I go downstairs everyday and help "work". I have a special sleeping place down there and since it is nice and cool, my sisters and I can all snooze while Mom works. Tell Dart I hope that he finds a forever home soon.

"Leslie now Daisy"

Hey everyone! I adopted Leslie (now known as Daisy) on May 6th. We have been great since then! She is so happy and loves running around outside and lounging by the pool with me. This past weekend, I took her up to Greenville, SC to stay at my friends house. She got to run around in a HUGE back yard, and on Saturday, we hiked to Eastatoe Falls, a gorgeous waterfall. I attached some pictures from the trip. She's also become a great traveling companion. She has lost some weight, and at the vet, they said she is in great health! They were surprised that she is 6 years old because of her health and energy. I will continue to keep yall updated!

"Kobe"

Hey All at Pet Helpers!!  Wanted to send more pictures of Kobe!! :) He and I moved to Goose Creek and he no longer has his doodle sister (she belongs to my former roommate) but he adjusted quickly to the only dog of the house, haha. He has also been a huge positive influence on my family dog. The family dog, Lucus, is a 5 year old golden retriever who is scared to death of other dogs. With Kobe around and his lack of personal space, Kobe has made Lucus actually want to play with other dogs! He still gets a lil freaked out by Kobe's non-stop energy and he can't keep up with his running but we have seen a huge change in Lucus' personality and the way he behaves around other pets now!

Kobe LOVES the water!! He prefers to be standing or laying in it though and will swim some but isnt a huge fan of swimming just yet. Attached are some pictures for you to enjoy (and probably laugh over!)  Hope you are all doing great!

Kristina

"Pretty"

Here are some pictures of Pretty with the kids in her new home. Things are going well. No escape attempts yet and she is learning new commands and how to walk on a leash. She is wonderful with the kids. Thanks for all of your help.

"Firefly"

"Firefly", formerly known as "Lucky" was a surprise Valentines gift to me from my husband, Stratton. I was begging him everyday to get me a cat but he told me he didn't want another pet because he thought our Great Dane "Snoop" wouldn't get along with it. All the while, I just knew it was because he wasn't a cat lover like me! Well, without my knowledge, on Valentines Day he went to PetSmart and decided that he would see if he could hit it off with any of the cats there, if not, he told himself would just cook me dinner. I honestly wish I had video footage of he and Firefly's visit. It must have been magical as Stratton said he could just tell he was the one. He brought him home and told me to come outside and help him unload something heavy out of his car. There was this little black cat staring back at me and I cried more than I did when Stratton asked me to marry him! :) Firefly is the perfect addition to our home and we can't imagine not having him. He and Snoop give each other kisses, play and even cuddle together. One is never in a different room than the other and Snoop often lets Firefly have the upperhand! Firefly is a master of the litter box, has a great appetite and playful spirit. We have enjoyed him so much and I am so extremely proud of Stratton for getting him from PetHelpers. Thank you so much for doing what you do! I will be forever grateful for your services!

"Bullet"

Hello Pet Helpers! I adopted Bullet last Tuesday and just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped take care of him before we found each other. He is sp precious and such a joy! He and his sister Bea are getting along so well and having lots of fun. I have attached some pictures of Bullet after his first trip to the groomers. Thanks again so much for all that you guys do!

"Chloe and Paisley"

Hello to Reegan and all of our friends at PetHelpers!  Remember us?  We were a little smaller the last time we visited you!  We are Chloe ("Fluet/Flute," black kitty, adopted 08/08) and Paisley ("SeaBass," orange kitty, adopted 01/09), and we are now best friends!  We live at separate homes, but our parents are best friends, too, and when they visit each other we get to come along for a play date!

When we play at Paisley's house, her big sister Izzy is there.  Izzy is a little older and sometimes doesn't understand how we young kitties like to play.  We love our tunnel tube, play condo, and chasing anything that wiggles or lights up or smells yummy!  After we play, we like to cuddle together, groom each other and take long naps.

Thank you for giving us a safe place to live while we waited to find our forever homes!

- Chloe and Paisley (and their parents, Garrett and Anna)

"Ginger"

Hey Kristen! Matt and I wanted to update you on our baby Ginger! She is doing great. She seems to be recovering perfect from her heartworm treatment. I have attached a few pictures of her! Matt and I still are so thankful for your organization and being part of bringing Ginger into our lives!

"Annie"

Annie is doing well!!. She weighed in at 39.7 pounds when we took her for a check up in the beginning of March. She is now eating the same as our other dog... dry food only, and at this point, we are just maintaining her current weight. Because she has to be inactive during her heartworm treatments (which is really NO problem for her-haha), she still hasn't been socialized other than with me, Nick, and our other dog, Molly- as well as my brother who comes over with his dog every so often. I'm really looking forward to being able to socialize her because she does do some "fear biting" when we do have some visitors come to our home.  I was in James Island Vet not long ago, and they told me she did that as well when they first found her. Understandable, but it is a terrible habit that absolutely must be broken. I work with Annie every day whether it involves playing with her, walking her on a leash around our property, etc. When I play with her, I always "test" her... touching her everywhere and getting in her space. She is totally at east with me, Nick, and Molly. When we take her to our vet, she lets them do whatever to her with no gripes about it. I'm thinking it is a territorial thing with her since it only seems to happen when visitors come into the house. Hopefully by the summer time she will be healthy enough so we can start taking her places- beach, dog park, etc. Annie and my other dog, Molly have become FAST friends! I really think they enjoy each other's company! They are always laying together on the couch or playing together - it's very sweet! Anyway, I hope you guys are doing well with placements and I will send you updates in the future. I have attached a few photos of Annie as well.

All the best, Chelsea

"Mindy"

My wife and I adopted Mindy from you a year ago this coming May. We felt guilty about not forwarding these photos sooner, and the wonderful time we had at your oyster roast was the impitus to share these photos with you and your staff.  We have a golden that was in need of some company, and Mindy chose us on our visit to your fine facility.  Here are the photos, Mindy is wonderful!!!

Thanks so much,

Brian & Terri Callahan - Johns Island

"Suki"

Hi. I adopted "Suki" about 4 months ago.  She is doing great.  Hands down the best dog I have ever had.  Attached are some pictures of her at Christmas time.

As a dog owner that has had puppies and now Suki who was 5 when we got her, I would highly recommend an adult dog!

p.s. Her birthday is in Feb. and we have plans to have a party to celebrate. I will send more pictures after that.
Thanks for all your great work!

"Dulcie"

Hi there. I adopted Dulcinea from Pethelpers nearly four years ago. I
call her Dulcie for short. She was so shy and skinny when I first adopted her. But she quickly came out of her shell and gained about 10
pounds. She was also heartworm positive. But I am happy to say, she was declared heartworm negative at her last vet visit in June and is just one happy 8 1/2 year old hound:) She loves going for walks and playing in the backyard with her sister Gracie, a bloodhound mix who followed us home one day about two years ago and never left:) Since moving in with my boyfriend a year ago, Dulcie also has a Chihuahua brother named ChiChi, a Chihuahua sister named Buffy, and Mutt sister named Sheba.

We're just one big happy family. Thanks, Pethelpers!

"Sticks - now Maya"

Hi! I adopted Sticks the dog about 6 weeks ago, and I know that everyone really took an interest in this special little dog, so I thought I would send you an update!

she answers to Maya these days, because a pretty girl deserves a pretty name. She is settling in really well- she is pretty much housetrained, and walks very well on a leash now. She still gets nervous sometimes, but mostly she likes to go for walks. She still gets a little anxious in the car but she is much much better with that too, since she goes to work every single day! Maya eats all of her food every day and is putting on about a pound and a half a week now, and her ribs are much less visible. She loves to go to Petsmart and is a few weeks away from finishing the beginner class. Maya has learned a few things, and refuses to do others, like lay down, but we don't mind. She naturally has very good manners so she puts her classmates to shame with some things. She also loves the dog park, and playing in her best friend Loki's back yard. She has really adjusted to life on the couch, and that is where she likes to be more than anywhere else.

The little dog that you knew is almost gone! Thanks so much for all you do in working toward finding good homes for deserving animals.

Elle

"Elle"

I adopted Elle from Pet Helpers in February from Lisa who fostered her and her brother Tighe.  I just wanted to send everyone her picture so that they can see she is doing so well and is so happy.  I love her so much and can’t imagine what I would do without her!  She is such a good girl and is so good with people and other dogs and always listens so well.

This picture was taken in June- she still had some growing to do, especially after her first birthday!

Thank you so much Pet Helpers and Lisa!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lily

"Lily"

I cannot thank y'all enough for bringing Lily to me. I couldn't ask for more in a dog! She's fully recovered from her heartworms now and healthy as can be. She's quite the fashionista now and waits for me to put on her bandana each morning. She also loooves pizza and icecream. As you can see from the picture, her favorite thing in the world to do is go swimming at my lakehouse. She was born to ride in a boat! She gets along great with my other 3 dogs at home in Florence and, whenever we go visit, my family threatens to steal her from me. It's such a joy to cuddle with her every night and wake up to her smiling and wagging her tail so hard that her whole body wiggles. Thanks again so much for her, and I can't wait to work with y'all again one day when I decide to find her a little brother or sister.

"Peaches"

Peaches has been such a joy to our family since I adopted her in 2004.
I was actually looking for a kitten at the time, and just happened to go back to the “adult cat playroom”. I sat down for a few minutes on the bench, and from out of no where Peaches jumped in my lap and “smiled” at me.  I knew then that she was coming home with me!
I got married in November 2006, and Peaches has adapted so well to all of us.
We have a chocolate lab (which was my husband’s dog before we were married) and we have another cat also. We are so blessed that they all get along so well!
Peaches had a sister, Sophie, another cat that I had for 16 ½ years that died while my husband and I were on our honeymoon.  Sophie was truly the love of my life. Peaches & Sophie got along so well, and I truly believe that Peaches kept Sophie alive for much longer than she would have lived had she been alone. They used to play together, and Peaches used to “groom” Sophie when she was not feeling well.  Peaches is very much a “people cat”…She loves everyone!  She has to be next to one of us at all times, and has slept on my pillow with me since the day I brought her home.
After suffering such a tragic loss after having Sophie for so long, Peaches has been great therapy for me, and has become the new love of my life (aside from my husband!).

Thank you all so very much for all that you do!

Sincerely,

Kathy R. Kleskie
